New Classes for 2012

Many of the classes now have an element of "own choice" and we hope that this will give teachers and students the freedom to find pieces which suit them as individuals.

New Classes include classes for Jazz Bands (classes 232 and 233), Concert Bands (classes 230 and 231) and Church Praise Bands (class 216).

Acknowledging the popularity of the Songs From The Shows classes, this year we are adding Songs from the Shows Duet and Ensemble Classes (classes 80 and 81).

We are also introducing a Vocal Recital Class (class 94) to complement our Instrumental Recital Class which has run successfully for many years.

Brass and Woodwind players now have more divisions, which will make choosing music much simpler and will ensure that all performers in the class are at the same level.

The Open Violin competition has been changed to match the Open Piano competition, whereby the competition is made up of four classes, each representing a different musical era; Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary. Each class will be adjudicated seperately. Competitors must perform in at least two of the four classes.

Totally new for the 2012 Ayrshire Music Festival are the three Composition Competitions (classes 211, 212 and 213) which we hope will give a performance opportunity to composers of all ages and to students preparing Inventions for SQA examinations.
